Plastic Surgery
What kinds of plastic surgery are available?
Today’s society puts a lot of attention on appearance – and it can affect our self-esteem and our ability to get a job or find a mate. If you are considering plastic surgery, it’s important to ensure you choose a highly qualified surgeon who can honestly and realistically discuss your options with you and develop a proper treatment plan.
Timely Medical Advantages can expedite your meeting with a doctor qualified to perform surgery in any of the following areas:
Face and Neck
Rhinoplasty – a “nose job” to make the nose smaller or bigger or to change its shape.
Blepharoplasty – an “eyelift” to remove fat or excess skin from the eyes.
Rhytidectomy – a “facelift” to remove excess fat, tighten under-lying muscles, and redrape the skin of the face and neck.
Browplasty – a “forehead lift” to minimize drooping eyebrows, “hooding” over the eyes, forehead furrows and frown lines.
Mentoplasty – surgery to reshape the chin either by enhancement with an implant or reduction surgery on the bone.
Cervicoplasty – a procedure to remove excess skin from the neck
Platysmaplasty – surgery to remove or alter neck muscles
Otoplasty – surgery on the ears to set prominent ears back closer to the head or to reduce the size of large ears.
Breasts
Augmentation – breast size can be increased via implants. A new endoscopic technique known as TUBA (Transumbilical Breast Augmentation) is now available meaning shorter recovery times and results with smaller scars.
Reduction – removes fat, glandular tissue, and skin from the breasts, making them smaller, lighter, and firmer.
Abdomen
Abdominoplasty – known as a “tummy tuck” this surgery remove excess skin and fat from the middle and lower abdomen and tightens the muscles of the abdominal wall.
Where needed
Liposuction – this surgical technique can remove unwanted fat deposits from the chin, neck, and cheeks; the upper arms and above the breasts; the abdomen, buttocks, hips, and thighs, and the knees, calves, and ankles.
Mole Removal – moles or nevi may be removed for cosmetic reasons or because they are itchy or at risk for becoming malignant. They can be removed surgically or by cauterization (liquid nitrogen or laser.)
Scar reduction – various surgical and anti-inflammatory ointments can be used to reduce the appearance of scars.
Why do I have to wait so long for my plastic surgery?
Cosmetic plastic surgery is seen as “elective” in Canada. As a result of rationing of care by the Canadian public health system and limited operating room times for surgeons, this means your surgery may be delayed and will be subject to being cancelled. Timely Medical Alternatives can help you find a private clinic to expedite your case so you can get the surgery you need as quickly as possible.
What are the risks of plastic surgery?
All surgeries carry risks. These include but are not limited to anesthesia, bleeding, infection, pneumonia, blood clots. There will be potential complications relating specifically to the individual surgery you are considering. Your surgeon is the best person to assess your risks with you and discuss how to minimize them.
How long will it take me to recover from pelvic surgery?
Recovery time will depend on your medical condition and the nature of your surgery. Recovery from nose surgery will likely be several weeks. Recovery from a tummy tuck will be closer to six weeks. Total recovery time will also depend on your health going into the surgery and the nature of your work or daily activities following the surgery.
